Two Medicine Lake - Not Sure on Comp
Sunrise at Two Medicine Lake in Glacier National Park. Sorry no dramatic clouds on this day. I am struggling with the composition on this one. Any recommendations greatly appreciated. I do believe that is Sinopah Mountain in the background.

Comments always welcome :argue:

Beautiful- classic comp., dave. I would like to see the highlights a bit darker, but overall it has a strong effect.

I like the comp Dave, I might have splashed some water on the exposed rocks to tone them down a bit but otherwise I like it alot

I think the comp is pretty good. Part of me thinks the mountain is a little too centered left to right, but that's probably just my opinion. I like the foreground, but I agree with Mike that splashing some water on the rocks that were dry might have been a little bit better. Very nice overall.

I think cropping out the top at the shoreline and leaving the bottom 2/3 makes it quite nice.

Sweet comp!I really like the rocks in the foreground and even though the mountain is centered, it does not bother me much.

Dave, I thought exactly the same as Trevor. This is clean and strong. The almost tile like effect of the rocks under the glassy surface of the water, broken only where they rise through the surface makes a strong foreground.

Nice to see you found a calm sunrise to shoot. When Inge and I were at Glacier a few years ago the wind really howled on the east side. I really like the mist on the far end of the lake.

This is centered, but because of that, it presents a nice "portrait" feel which seems to be what you were going for.

Thanks for all the comments everyone! If I was to off-center the image, would I need to go left or right? I realized after the fact I should have used a grad as well to hold down the bright sky. This is definitely need to return again in early spring or middle fall to get snow on the peaks.

I like this, Dave. Notice how many opinions you got; interesting isn't it? My take is that the symmetry of the overall comp is pleasing. So are the colors; I was left with an impression of red and blue, but when I scrolled up to look at it again, The blues of the sky and water are quite pastel! The rocks... all the ones that are bright create a nice angular leading line into the scene, while the ones on the left that break the surface but are still wet make my eye wander a bit in that area of the frame. I'd say either have 'em all wet, or submerge the ones on the left   (The razz is more on me than you.) I also like a couple different takes on the image by cropping: one would be to slice off the top just above the little wispy cloud; another would be to come in from the left to decenter the mtn peak a little; or both.
Having said all that, I still like it just as it is!

I like what you have here Dave. The entire scene works for me (fg, mg, and bg) but, what I really like is the geometry of the shadow and light on the mountains. The shadow ends dead center of the centered mountain in a diamond shape (including reflection) which seems to perfectly transect the scene. I think you've captured an outstandingly simple yet spectacular phenomenon. I tend to be impressed by such little things and have enjoyed coming back to this shot. Nice work.

I have viewed this several times. It's a nice image to me. I tend to like darker skies but I am liking this one with the pastel feeling for some reason. The 2/3's comp works well here too. And you have great detail in your darks. The rocks are only a minor bother. I would of course prefer to see them all wet, but I don't feel it makes or breaks the image.

And yes Glacier is a beautiful place. I was fortunate this summer when I was up there to capture a very dramatic sunset on Two Med Lake. I believe it might still be on NPN.
