whenever I try to take a time exposure on my Rebel XTI it takes as long as the exposure to record the imfo? So if I set the shutter for an hour long time exposure or more to capture the star trails when I release the shutter it takes an hour or more to record the info! Many times the battery dies before it's done recording, any one have experience with this. I wish I could upgrade to a better model but I have no money

Sounds like Noise Reduction for Long Exposures is enabled. Go into the Menu (or Custom Function) and turn it off.

That's exactly right.
Go to Custom Function 2 and choose 'Off'. Your problem will be solved.

At the same time, the dark frame subtraction noise reduction can be very helpful so you may want to remember to turn it back on at times.

Much better to do noise reduction in post processing, a la Noise Ninja or Noiseware etc.

Agree on the post-processing of noise. I use Neat Image quite successfully - especially for my large prints. It's like magic!
