Hi,
Does this composition work for you? I don't normally go for more sky than land, but the sun had by this point dropped behind a hill leaving the foreground in shadow, so I opted for a long lens.

Ebony RSW45, Nikon 210mm, Provia, cropped square.

Absolutely outstanding Tom - these clouds are amazing and so is the foreground. You've got a great lead-in with the three layers of rocks, beautiful touch with the clouds lingering next to the mountains and the colours and contrast are both perfect.

Personally I think the comp works well - though I find myself looking more at the clouds then the landscape. I think you could attempt a crop as on the image attached which perhaps brings the emphasis back down to the land. I think you're original crop is best though. Would be interesting to see the original full frame.

Thanks for sharing - I'd suggest posting this one on the ESS forum for further opinions.

I think the very large proportion of sky was a very good idea and works very well.
Both compositions look good although I prefer the first, purely for the huge expanse of sky and the fact that you've included the tops of the clouds.

Thanks Guys, here is the full frame, basically I chose the square because I wanted to lose the left side but keep the tops of the clouds on the right.

See this

see note below - Tom

edit: how do you get an image to show in your reply ?

Both crops work but the original is my choice as it gives a real feeling of the scale of the sky and the idea of wide open space surrounding the viewer.

Thanks, the original full frame is impressive in its own right. Your first crop is by far the most effective though. Tristan

Good to see you on board, Tom :toast:. It's a great image, and nice to see some other folks using LF around here. I can also see intimate landscape with more emphasis on land, but this sky is impressive on its own.

Cheers,
Marko
