Tired of Summer

O.K. I've officially had it with summer. I'm tired of the heat and the dry grass. I went back into my files and found this shot from several years ago. It was shot on slide film with a Canon AE1 on my in-laws farm in Winfield, Kansas. The blurring effect is from blowing snow. Rejoice in cooler weather.......

Merle, that's very refreshing! I feel a chill just looking at your photo. I too am getting tired of this heat and humidity. I am glad I decided to spend August indoors doing office work and making plans for fall photo ops.

Best,
Don

Nice picture! Although I am not looking forward to shoveling snow, I am tired of the hot humid weather.

I hope to see a lot of that white stuff this year. The last few years have been snow-deficient around here it seems. Looks like you caught a pretty good snow up thar in Kansas...

Hey Bill, If you wanted snow last year you could have come up and spent some time with us in middle MO. Right after New Years we had 6 inches of ice topped off two days later with 17 inches of snow. We live 7 miles out of town and were "snowed in" for three days before a neighbor with a skid loader cleared the drive to the house (350 ft of gravel drive) so we could get out. We had ice and snow on the ground for over 2 months. A lot of four wheel drive time.

I'm not a hot weather person at all and I'm definitely looking forward to cooler weather. I tend to "hibernate" in the summer like Don. I like your shot, it is very evocative of cold weather. Winfield, Kansas is where is I was born and grew up.

Terry, Interesting---My wife lived there for awhile and went to Stevenson Elementary in the mid-50's. We still have friends there - the Mayfields who live on Mound across from the tennis courts. How long have you been gone from there ?

Merle, I left Kansas in 1970 right after I graduated from High School (I went to High School in a small town named Burden about 18 miles east of Winfield). I lived in Oklahoma City for five years and moved to Arkansas in 1975. Been here ever since - although I do get back to Kansas occasionally. I was there for a family reunion on the July 4th hoilday last month. It's a small world, isn't it?

Well I have a connection to Winfield too, though not one I care to remember. While I was a junior in high school our varsity baseball team played Winfield for the State 6A championship. We lost 1 - 0 in a fiecely contested game and one in which we squandered several opportunities to score. I think it's safe to say our hearts were about as cold & bitter as this scene looks, right after the last out was recorded.

Nice shot Merle, thanks for cooling me off!

Brrrrrrr---I don't like winter, much prefer the heat, but the last couple weeks of high 90s to low 100s and the higher than normal humidity has me wishing for fall atm--nice pic
