I wanted you guys to be the first to know. I just got a call this morning from Outdoor Photographer Magazine, I was chosen as the Grand Prize Winner of the Canon Your Favorite Places Contest.
I'm very excited, and a little stunned. In addition to the cool prizes, I'll be featured in the November issue of OP. Here is a link to the contest site Contest
I also learned this week that I'm one of the winners in the Natures Best Competition, and will be featured in the fall issue. As if that wasn't enough, Outdoor Photography also let me know I'll have a couple images featured in their portfolio section.

Great news, Zack! You're still a jerk though.

Ah mark, are you still sore at me? Should I send some flowers, or a half rack of Dead Guy Ale?

Very nice, Zack. That should help your funding of the new 1Ds 3 a little bit. Which image was selected? I tried to enter that one a while back and missed some deadline for sending in a full-res. version as a finalist while I was gone. Glad to see the NW is appropriately represented with your win, however. You are most deserving. I also congratulate you on your Nature's Best award as well.

Congrats, Zack!!! Too bad one of the prizes isn't a new Nikon. Can you post the winning image or does OP own the rights to that for awhile??

Zack,
congrats on an awesome accomplishment.

Thanks guys. Here is the image that won.
Marc, good thing for me you missed that deadline eh?

Oooh, yeah. That's a nice one Zack! You are absolutely deserving of the award in every way.

Wow, to both the shot that won and the honor your received. Serious congrats. And didn't you have a child recently as well? A lot of exciting things coming your way; it must be tough to take it all in!
You guys are certainly convincing me that are opportunities out there for the passionate amature. Never let the dream die!
Oh, MAN! What a sensational image! Hearty congratulations from one of the PNWNP gals who follows your work with great interest. Wonderful achievements for you on both OP and Nature's Best. Just gotta do it all at once, too, huh, and just stun yourself stupider than beer could? You GO! boy!

Congrats, Zack. Well deserved. With all the awards, I hope you don't assess me a workshop fee for the trip to ELB. Remember, you were invited before you acheived national fame and fortune.
Zach,
obviously well deserved!
It made me look at your website once again, which I like a lot, too. It seems like you are strongly influenced by Marc's work, or vice versa.
What I miss there is a hint as to were one can find published photos of yours. (I mean in print, not on the web)

Zack,
Congrats man! That's great! Just goes to show you that a less than perfect technical image can still win the hearts of many. An image just needs to have mood and this one is chocked full of it.

Thanks all.
Georg, that sounds like a good idea for a future page on my site, I think I'll start putting something like that together.
I most certainly have been influenced by Marc, as many others have been. Moving to full frame and the inspiration of his work had a huge impact on my work.

You deserve it Zack. I'm super happy for you brother. That's rad!! I was sad, because I had meant to enter that contest, but missed the date. Now that I know who I would have been going up against, I feel a bit better about missing it.
That doesn't mean I'm not going to work my ass off to try and catch up with you (which is gonna be hard cause you keep raising the bar)
Thanks again for all the inspiration.
