Title says it all - must be perfect optically.

Would possibly consider 600mm - just not sure if my arms can take the strain!

Thanks

Hi Sean

Thanks for that. I have seen the ad but I was hoping to source one privately as obviously they'll not be dealers profit or VAT etc to pay (it won't be for my business so I will not be able to reclaim the dreaded VAT). I have actually seen a NEW one in the UK at less than the Mifsuds secondhand one!

Thanks anyway - much appreciated

Crikey that Mifsuds price is only £300 pounds off new retail - I'd give that a wide berth Barrie and buy new if that's all I could find :wavey:

Their new list is £100 dearer than Calumet too

Yes Andy quite agree. I think they have obviously bought in at too high a price and then with their profit and VAT it makes a totally unrealistic prospect

I recently sold mine for £2500 which, given the current new prices, is a more realistic 2nd hand price..

I remember Tom and I wish to god I had bitten then!

Calumet prices are usually quoted excluding VAT........ on the basis they only supply pros and any mere mortals cannot afford or deserve their services

Perhaps you could import one Barrie

Hmm - I have a feeling we have been here before haven't we Nick

Interestingly though, when I bought and imported my original 500mm (a few years ago now), the price differential between UK and US was so great that I saved a huge amount even after paying duty and VAT.

Today, the difference between cheapest new UK and imported US (after duty/VAT) is not so great.

Barrie,

Do you trust the Hong Kong sellers on EBAY, as they are usually much cheaper?

Chris.

You should give Kerso on Ebay a try.
My 400 was £3600 from him back last winter, even cheaper than any used 400 I've ever seen or heard of since. Duty is taken care of due to him sending it as a gift to his sister in Fife and then the deal is between you and her........warrantee is international.
Why can't it go through the business Barry?
Tom, 2500 was incredibly cheap!

Hi Chris - Honh Kong selers can't do it cheaper than Kerso (I have had alook at on eor two)

Hi John - as you'll see from above, I have contacted Ian and he has offered a very good price but for what I want if for, I would rather pay much less and have 'pre enjoyed'.

It could go through the business but it's not going to be used as a business tool and so it would be naughty

I am not sure I would say £2500 is incredibly cheap when you look at the new price (which would include dealer's profit and VAT. A lens selling new at £3500 for instance is less than £3000 before VAT

Barrie, surely you could argue that shooting weddings from an adjacent field is much better for those candid shots.... Peter

Now there's a thought...... in fact, if there were two going on at hotels near to each other, I could really make a killing

I sold it at 65% of what I could find it for new, which was 25% more than I was offered as a trade-in and a mininum of 35% less than what it would have cost its new owner as new if they known the best place to look. A fair deal if you ask me, It was mint-. £2800 would have been nice, but I wanted a quick exchange as I had a second hand 600mm lined up.

What something is worth 2nd hand is only what somebody else is willing to pay. and that is time variable. For example the cost of 2nd LF lens has dropped significantly as nobody wants them, it will rise again soon when a cheaper LF digital back appears.
