Dragon Eye
Managed to get close to this basking in the late evening sun on the garden wall. Slightly easier than trying to get em on the wing.

D200
Nikkor 105 macro lens
1/60 @f9
Aperture priority
handheld
curves and saturation adjustment layer

Think I've left the eye too central in the frame ?

Hi Paul

I love seeing really close shots of these guys as it shows just how horible they look lol.

The image you have posted seems to have a slight white layer over the top, making the whole image look over exposed(if you know what i mean ?).

Hope you dont mind but i had a play with your image, to get rid of the whiteness.Just did a combination of saturation/contrast/levels/curves to tone everything down. And give the shot some body as it looks flat via the whitesh layer.

Oh and the comp is alright with me

Paul, Alan's rework is a significant improvement of your image. What bothers me still is very light background. Somehow I'm not sure if it suits this subject.

Cheers,
Marko

Alan,
Cheers for the rework, looks so much better. For whatever reason I lose all colour when save for web in Photoshop (possible colour space issue?). Anyway thanks again for taking the time to fix.

Marko, I agree the background isn't the greatest, it is a concrete slab on top of a wall, really I was so chuffed at finally getting an image that shows the structure of the compound eye I just shot away. :toast:

Paul - before you save for web you need to change colour space >edit>convert to profile - then choose sRGB using the Adobe ACE engine check box ticked and Relative Colourimetric box ticked :wavey:

Nice cap BTW, Als' rework helps it no end (but now you've got that covered) - the pale BG doesn't bother me at all
