A future photo op!

Yep, ten years from today, there will be a total eclipse right over my house; that is, if I am still living in central MO.

See today's article at http://spaceweather.com/
and click on the map to enlarge it.

And, I just ordered a pair of Eclipse Shades-Safe Solar Eclipse Glasses at $1.95/pair from www.scientificsonline.com so now I'm prepared!

Hey Don, you should have a 1 gig megapixel camera body by then (no wait, that's Tim E) to get a fantastic shot! I believe in planning but this is really looking into the future.

Heck, I'll be lucky if I remember what I had for breakfast when I get 10 years older let alone to look up for the eclipse!

Wayne, I'm sure a 1 gigapixel camera will only cost about fifty bucks by then. I recall 10 or so years ago, the 1 megapixel Kodak DSLRs were on the order of $25K.

Don, does this mean there'll be a party at your house in 10 years and we're all invited? :toast:

You betcha and I'll even provide the solar eclipse glasses! :toast: :toast: :toast:

All are invited except for Tim E., we don't wanna see no stinkn' 1 gigapixel camera.

In order to insure you have a good view (in case of clouds), you might consider having some helium balloons on hand for your lawn chair.

Tim B.

Better yet, I'll charter a party plane to get us up above the clouds. We will all be shooting with VR lenses and noise-free 4,000 plus ISOs by then so we won't have to mess with tripods.

It's really amazing what you can find on Google these days. For those inquiring minds that want to know, and those who will be attending Don's party, the swath of the total eclipse will only be about 120 miles wide, and Don's house is only 9.5 miles from the dead centerline of the swath. Dang, you should be charging admission, Don!

Bill, well, it looks like I'll have to move. I want to be dead center over the eclipse. At least I have 10 years to pick out a new homesite. Question is: Do I move 9.5 north or 9.5 miles south?

Don, upon further review it would appear that you need to contact a realtor in the Guthrie area. Finding a home near the coordinates of Lat: 38.75694, Lon: -92.09639 should get you within inches!

Oh, and by the way, if we can hang in there a few more years, there will be another total solar eclipse right over Tim E's cabin on April 8, 2024. That's going to be a Monday, so I hoping Tim will schedule a special workshop for the event.

Bill,

Well Guthrie is about 12 miles northeast of me as the crow flies. I may lease some land instead, the area is mostly pasture and not very exciting. Thanks for the tip, I'll drive up there today and scout around...not!
