Spear Fishing!
Thanks to all for thier critique, and as a result this image is presented for C&C

It spent ages trying to dislodge the fish so it could get it eaten.

Specs:

D2x
500mm + 1:4 tc +.3ev
1:320th at 5.6
Apature Priority
WB Auto

Cheers Paul

Paul, how is the fish attached - actually speared?
I can see a line (or something) between the fish and the head and running down the other side of the beak in the gap?

Can you blow up this section and post it?

There does appear to be a loop of fishing line? around the beak.

It doesn't look like it's speared the fish, at least not from this angle. Looks more like the poor thing's got it's beak entwined on that fishing line. :frown:

Agreed - that fish looks like it's been deep-hooked and the angler has cut his hooklink and chucked the fish back.
It is accepted that this is best-practice actually as the hooks do dissolve, but you are supposed to cut the line inside the fishes mouth - if you don't then this happens :frown:
Now you know why she was so long getting the fish turned Paul

Otherwise nice image but another big crop Paul??? I only ask because of the noise in the torquoise feathers.

I'm not a fisherman so what does the hook do to the kingfisher when it is swallowed?

Paul a really good capture for environmental photography

Hi folks,
Well as there is no fishing here it seems a bit odd however in all images from the sequence there are no more images showing this line. I suspect it is a piece of weed, as the fish was speared through the side.
magnified image appended
cheers Paul

after a good bashing and manipulation it eventually went down.
the crop is about 40% from all originals

Not convinced it's speared - looks more like the KF has grabbed it by a pectoral fin. Whichever it was, must have been great to watch!
