This image was made in July during my trip up to the Sonora Pass Country with Lon. It was a breezy day along Deadman's Creek, so I had to play the 'waiting game'. Lon was playing the same game downstream from me. This image is cropped slightly, but retains the 4x5 image ratio.

very inviting and lush scene. I'm interested in seeing what you cropped out.

Very nice scene captured perfectly here, Preston. Looks like it would have been almost impossible to keep all the foliage movement out from the wind, but it looks like you worked it very impressively.

Preston,

I know how much time you spent working this little gem of an scene and you've been greatly rewarded. I love the rocks and the warm tones beneath the perfect compliment of yellow flowers (did we decide if these were asters?) I think it's perfectly composed as well.

The only nit I will mention seems simply web related. It appears a tad bit over sharpened, at to me and my monitor. Certainly doesn't take away from the beauty of this.

So glad you finally got the time to get this one scanned and processed

Thanks for the comments!

Lon, I don't know what the yellow flowers are. They are not asters. With regard to sharpness: The image looks nice on my crt monitor but looks a little oversharpened on my lcd at work. I suppose I should be less agressive with USM, since most folks are using lcd's these days. Also, jpeg compression didn't help.

Can anyone help with ID if the yellow flowers? Thanks!

The white one is hemlock isn't it? Beautiful scene, Preston. I'm jealous of your ease of access up there.

Would have to see a not oversharpended crop of the yellow one to maybe ID
or maybe this site can help?

The white one may be Rangers Buttons, can't see it well enough to evaluate.
I love Deadman's Creek!! Have camped at the base of the falls many times.
Great Tiger Lilies around there also in Aug usually...depends on a "normal" year tho
Unfortunaltely, I have not been able to get out this summer...
Praying for a slow Fall so I can get out for some weekend color drives.
Nice work Preston. Is that a little water in the bottom right?
Glad you and Lon got out together....
I've been trying to get out with him....
He can be illusive

in gratitude,
Nelcha

classic eastern sierra stream shot Preston. The vibrant greens sure does remind me of the first impression I had of that short little trip, that everything looked so lush and green.

Just lovely, Preston. The presence of the rocks (and specially their placement within the frame) acts as a counter-balance to the soft vegetation that fills the upper portion of the frame. This is a scene that is bursting with life - including the hint of moving water in the lower right corner adds to that feeling.
