Went over to Palisade, CO last weekend for the Peach festival. It was fun. The sky was clear to the west at sunset on Saturday evening so I pulled off the side of road and worked Mount Garfield a little. The clouds took on only the slightest of pink color which was kinda disappointing. Mount Garfield and the Book Cliffs lit up nicely though.

I've driven by here so many times on I-70, going 80mph and wanting to stop and take photos... but I never do. This though is really nice light! Did you try any tighter comps? Anyways this is nice.

Oh, btw, the Colorado Winefest is in Palisade September 13-16. :toast:

Nice capture Doug! I have ridden the Tour of Vineyards twice before, very cool ride to do during the Winefest.

Doug - nice composition and great light!

Is this a straight shot or a composite? Something about the white balance in the quarter-tones of the midground attracts my attention and makes me wonder... though I've seen how reflected light (especially at twilight) can bounce some really amazing hues into part of the landscape that you wouldn't expect. Just curious... a great image!

Nat, this is a straight shot. Compressed RAW processed in RAWShooter Essentials and then edited in Paint Shop Pro 9.

Doug, I am very familiar with the Bookcliffs. My father grew up in Palisade, and my grandmother was still there while I was a child. They had property that backed right up to -70 (after it was built of course), which means the Bookcliffs were right out the back door. This is one of the best photos of the Bookcliffs I have seen, and it inspires me to get back out there and try some myself!

Nice shot, Doug. I've always enjoyed this view but never captured it.

Fantastic image, Doug. The composition feels really solid, and that sky is to die for. Great detail throughout as well. Nice shooting!
