For anyone planning to head up to Tower Road to photograph the sunflowers, you should know that the yellow leaves are almost completely gone. There must have been a big wind storm or something. The above shot is really the only scene I found that I thought had any photographic promise. But the fields are nothing like they were in John De Bord's shot from earlier this week.

Here's a snapshot I took that's much more representative of what most of the area looks like.

Wow,
It looks like someone went thru there with weed killer.
That first shot looks great though! Were these taken on the same day from different perspectives?
Love the in-your-face look to the 1st shot, very cool !

Grant,
When were you out there? I parked next to a 4Runner on Wednesday night and saw someone with a tripod in the area. Your second shot is definitely representative of most of what I saw. I should have made it out there sooner. I managed to get a couple shots though. Nothing spectacular, but I liked this one.

Yes, Derek, the two shots were taken on the same day, about 100 feet from each other.
Thanks, Don. I was sort of forced to go with the in-your-face shot to bring attention to the one cluster of really large sunflowers I found that was still intact. I guess that's the good thing about all the lost leaves. I didn't have to tax my brain with all the billions of possible compositions. .
Jason, I was out there Wed. around 4:30 - 5:30 at the north end of the big hotel. I wasn't in a 4Runner, though.

Glad you got to shoot some of them. That shot is a killer.

Wow.......I wonder what the heck happened! Maybe the heat from last week got to em??? That is really sad.....
That first shot is outstanding, Grant. What Don said - I love the in your face feel as that one sunflower leans into the lens, and the sun rays are a nice touch.
That second one - ouch; that just looks sad. I guess the wind and heavy rains did a number on them, probably some hail, too, judging by the holes in the leaves.

Ya I was out there yesterday and saw the same thing everywhere. From the looks of what I saw, and from what people are saying is that a really bad hail storm came through.

I really like that first shot! Like the light and the unique comp.
