You've probably looked at the highway, TV and ski cams for weather conditions, but I stumbled across a couple of air quality monitoring cameras that provide better, more reliable "real time" views for trip planning. Both are on a USFS site, with one at Timberline Lodge, pointed toward Mount Jefferson, and the other located near Maryhill Museum, pointed toward Mount Hood. Both are really handy for Portlanders, since they show areas just beyond our skyline, and in other weather regimes that are often different than ours (like today, when it is sunny up on Hood). They also have a 24-hour sequence feature that is handy for checking out how the light is progressing, given the time of year.
As I post this, the Gorge cam is out, and that's the first I've seen this happen. They have been really reliable for the past month or so that I've been using them. If you poke around a bit on this website, you can find other cams from around the country that might be useful, too.
