I don't make it over to the west side of RMNP very often, but my family spent last weekend at Grand Lake and I was lucky enough to catch this foggy, cloudy sunrise Sunday morning. The beetle kill over that way is really devastating, but you can't see very much of it in these shots.
Great shots Tony! I've got nearly identical ones to your first two from the same spot taken two weeks ago at sunrise with fog. What is the old saying, "Warped minds think alike." ? http://morninglight.us/photo.php?id=680&gallery=new That third shot though is really something special!

The mist in the valley on these absolutely seals the deal for me. Great stuff!

The contrast in the cloud textures and colors in the 3rd shot totally rocks!

They are all awesome, but that third one... amazing!!!! Eerie and spectacular at the same time... it seems a shot with both these qualities at the same time would be pretty rare. Also I like the subtle colors in the foreground grasses.

Super shots, Tony, but #3 is the show stopper! Great series

Tony looks like you had a very productive morning.

Nice series of shots, and #3 is something special. It looks as though the mountains are on fire, and the stream - even though relatively small - has a big impact on the foreground.

Thanks all for the comments. I don't think I would have managed to get this series with my 4x5, but my wife has a policy, no 4x5 on family trips. I was able to improvise rapidly here with the 5D. I was lucky to get anything at all - the fog only broke enough to see the mountains a couple mintues before sunrise.

Great shots! The range of light and color in #3 is stunning. Get that one printed large!

Wow, Tony, I like them all but that 3rd one is AWESOME!!
( Like a Cali Valley Girl) "Oh My Gawd!" I love the last one! Splendid indeed.

Tony, your third image is simply stunning ... obvious by the comments left here. One to remember. Excellent work all around.

Have to agree with everyone else: the third shot is spectacular.
I also have to agree with your opening statement. The beetle kill has spread horrendously this year; I went early in the year and the northern part of the Kawauneeche Valley was still relatively good. I just went that way again over the weekend and the kill has definitely spread to cover the northern half of the valley, into the Poudre Valley, and is also showing signs along the entire length of the Peak-to-Peak Highway here on the Eastern slopes.
