Lake Superior South Shore

I made a spur of the moment decision to drive up to drive along the Wisconsin south shore of Lake Superior late last week. It had been raining for a week and I thought the water level in some of the streams might be above normal for this time of year. In general the water levels were very low. Apparently the north has not had the rain we’ve had in the southern part of the state. The benefit of the low water was better access to the rivers. I was able to step across the Amnicon River and walk along the Copper River. Water levels at Lost Creek and the Morgan Rivers were good. I was very surprised by the number of trees turning color as evidenced by the number of leaf pictures taken. This area is going to make a great fall trip when the leaves start falling. I missed Siskiwit Falls but suspect it will also provide some great fall photos.

Enjoy the photos.

Nice shots. I particularly like the last 3 sets that you linked. As far as rain goes, it doesn't suprise me that the south shore rivers are low. The north shore of Minnesota was extremely dry when I was up there a little over a week ago. A full ban on fires was actually put in place...kind of a stark contrast with the southern portion of my state where flooding has been taking place. Crazy weather!

Those are nice shots. It looks greener than I expect, with the lack of rain. Also I wouldn't think that fall colors would be great this year because of the drought. I went camping in the Boundary Waters back in May and they also had a full fire ban. Pretty miserable for us, considering how cold it was (raining and also got a bit of snow!)

Nice photo! I just got back from NE Wisconsin and some stressed trees are changing color rapidly. Went for several hikes including one into Whisker Lake Wilderness Area and the stressed trees all seemed to be along roadways. Scenic Overlooks didn't show any patches of color changes but fall is definitely in the air.

Fire Danger was "Moderate", though everything was dry and dusty and rivers were lower than usual.
