Moody Sky
Taken on a hike from Spring 06 during the short time the fields of balsam root is in full swing in the Gorge. I like the image for the moody sky feel and with the level horizon you can see just how steep this hike is. But as always I appreciate all honest feedback.

20D / Sigma EX 18-50 @ 26 / 1/160s and f/14
No filters

Note: If the b&w is out of kilter it's my bad. I got this new ACER that bites for b&w (even after calibrating it many times) so I will need to get a new monitor here ASAP. If someone knows a good suggestion that won't break the bank for a LCD by all means let me know.

I like this but I am feeling that the color would be great too

I hear you Darren. I have a couple images I like from this hike with a sea of yellow, and of course color. However, I wanted to do something different by making it b&w on this piece. I have it on my PC in color and b&w, but like the b&w better.

This definitely portrays that steep angle well!

I like this shot Adrian, particularly the composition and the flowers. The lighting transitions in the balsam root is bugging me though. It's hard to tell if it was natural lighting or intentional burning. It would probably be clearer in the color version but, for the b&w, I'd suggest evening out some of the shadows in the flowers.

Did you stick around until sunset? Looks like it would have been amazing with the clouds overhead. This hike is as steep as anything I've been on in the Gorge. I was surprised by all the people (and wide range of different ages and body types) way up at the top when I went. I like the framing and inclusion of the distant hills. Having been there, though I really, really miss the bright color of the flowers (so my opinion is a bit prejudiced).
