Monument Rock by moonlight
I went out to Monument Rock after work, with the intent to shoot star trails and the lunar eclipse. Unfortunately, 20+mph winds put a stop to most after dark shooting. I managed to find a couple sheltered areas from which to shoot. The eclipse pics were a bust. Just after sunset, the full moon was lighting up the landscape, so I took the chance to try a few moonlight shots. This is one of my favorites. I think most of the dots are stars, but I'm sure there are some hot pixels too, but I don't know which ones. For this pic, I've left a touch of color, but I'm also including a pure b/w for comparison. 30D, ISO 200, 30 sec, f/3.5. Comments/critiques welcome, thanks for looking.

Top notch and unique. The stars, the clouds, the light, the unusual rock formation, and the interplay of shadows and stone columns make for a captivating image.

Wow! I really like this shot (both of them actually)! The Monument Rocks, stars and subtle cool blue tones really give this an otherworldly feel. Excellent shot Rob! :toast:

What an interesting shot! This looks more like the ruins of a Scottish castle than natural formations in the middle of Kansas. The lighting is awesome and I love the sky.

Rob, this is really cool! I like the color version better as the cool blues add a lot to the image. What a truly unique shot. Sorry the eclipse was a bust as I was looking forward to your shots. But we just can't escape that wind, can we?

This is a really interesting perspective on this place - very nice. I love the B&W one.

Thanks for the compliments and input. The color is still my favorite, for the reasons others mentioned.
