Here's a photo from last year, a large Tegenaria duellica ran across my floor whilst I was at the computer. I placed it on the underside of the desk, and back lit the wall with a halogen lamp to create the silhouette. I know this wont be to everyone's taste (especially the arachnophobes), but I was pleased with how it came out.
Details
Nikon D50
Sigma 105mm Macro
1/60
F/7.1
ISO 200
I would be tempted to remove the tonal variations/blotchyness from the bg, as it gives a muddy feel to the shot IMO.
Maybe increasing the contrast to remove any mid-tones to leave a pure white bg, and deep black silhouette, would give it a nice crisp look
Just my personal view though
Nice one
Alan

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Alan, I played around with a few versions of this, and i couldn't get the high contrast one to look quite right. My slow, ancient PC is inhibiting my editing work at the moment, but i hope to remedy than in the near future with a new laptop, and then start improving my photoshop skills.
Great idea, Daniel! just something for arachnophobias as you said . Only possible improvement, that I could think of, was already mentioned in Alan's post.

As long as it doesn't come running across my floor...
