I photographed this female Golden Plover on Speyside, Scotland. Only minutes before she had crossed a quiet moorland road with her brood and when she found that her chicks were having difficulty in getting out of the ditch at the side of the road - she stood tall and called to them giving me this photo opportunity!

Well up to your very high standards David. The slight purple shade in the BG really sets it off beautifully!

Beautiful shot David. Can't fault it. How often do you see a wader's tongue?
Just a shame the bird had started moulting. Out of interest what time of year was this taken?

Great capture David of a difficult bird to photograph in Scotland.

Hi Paul
This image was taken in June and I don't think she had started her moult as this plumage is fairly typical of many of the 'females' found on UK breeding grounds.

Beautiful image. These winter in great numbers here in my part of the world. Hoping to get a picture of a sky full of them when they all take to the air.
