It might be useful for you to give other members of the forum details of your work flow.
You have some great photo opportunities judging by your recent postings but your photos are always extremely noisy which is either because of the way you are processing your images, the ISO you are using in the camera or to do with the amount of cropping you are doing from the original file.
If you are able to tell us a little bit more, perhaps those of us with a lot of experience in this area (particularly those who use Nikon - I understand there are one or two ) could help you get a lot more out of your photographs.
Thank you gents, ok so the techs and workflow are as follows:
all steps forom shoot to send are in srgb colour mode 1
I use rawshooter premium 2006, process download images and remove wasters.
convert to tiff for photoshop.
minor curves and unsharp, save for web.
The shot was D2x 500+1.4tc mk2
f6.3, 1/2000
iso 200, ev -.33 spot meter and mode AP
original shot as above,,, so where is the problem??

Hi Paul,
your original looks to be about a stop underexposed on my monitor. I think trying to lighten it up during editing has brought out the noise in the shadows.
Having seen the uncropped version, i think a less tighter crop {to include the entire reflection area} would make a fine overall composition, and may also help with noise.
Maybe someone with more knowledge than me could confirm that 'shooting in srgb' can lose some vital colour vibrancy, compared to shooting in colour mode 2 {rgb}. I personally shoot in rgb, and only convert to srgb in PS {after adjustments}, when posting on the web. Not sure if i am right, on this subject though

Paul - as Alan mentioned, you'd be better shooting in AdobeRGB1998 as the colour gamut is bigger, but I don't think that should make much difference to your RAW file noise.
I'm curious as to what the original RAW/NEF file size is - I'd expect this to around 17-19Mb, if it isn't then check your setup to see if Raw Compression is turned OFF.
I'd also be suspicious of RAW SHOOTER - how it interprets your raw files, does it have a pre-set for the D2X?
And are you saving the image as a TIFF at 300dpi at full image size and the right bit-depth?

thanks gents,
used to shoot RGB mode 2 but decided to give sRGB a go with less contrast so perhaps go back to that!
Andy the file size was or is indeed around the 17 mark and images are saved as tiff at 300 in 16bit and there is a D2x camera recognition patch which allows me to adjust allimages un upload likea batch.
not sure if there is a D2x pre-set I will have a mooch around.

As Marko says - great pose but too noisy

Had a quick adjustment of your excellent image in CS. Curves, then neat image to remove noise. Hope you don't mind.
Best wishes
