Sparks Lake Star Trails (with repost)
I was having some fun after a dull clear blue day. I hung around till the moon rose, and experimented with how long I could get away with before the long exposure noise would get really bad. This is a 20 minute exposure, the absolute max before it turned to Sh#@

I'm thinking of picking up a cheap film body, and some velvia just for star trails.

5D
17-40L
20 minutes, f/5.6, ISO 100

Dude, I was thinking of getting a film body too, for star trails...so I hear ya. This one turned out pretty cool...and I see no Sh#@y noise here!

Definitely prefer the second version.....very nice. Should be able to pick up a film body pretty cheaply these days

Nice looking shot Zack. You made some lemonade...as they say. The second shot doesn't show any sign of noise to me. I'm amazed at how well those 5Ds do with shots that would be obliterated by noise on my Nikon. It's intersting how the star trails in the sky are radial while in the water they are linear. Are the lines in the water not star trails or is this just a physical phenomenon?

They are star trails, just look more linear.

Sweet and 2nd shot is even better. You know you could shoot additional 20 min shots and combine them......

Hmmmmm... I didn't think of that John, good thinking.

Cool shot, Zack, the second one is great.

Yeah, I've been wanting to grab a cheap film body for a while, too. Great shot, here. The contrast and color looks much better in the repost.

Very nice shot Zack. Your work is inspiring.
Was that you I passed several times Friday night? As I was running around setting up camp for a group of friends and all their dogs, I was jealous of a lone photographer sitting around catching photos of the starry night and mountain reflected off the lake......similar to this shot.

Haha, yeah that was me all right. It was a beautiful night to be out under the stars

I tried a long exposure this weekend....about an hour or so...not sure, lost track of time. My batteries (both of them) died from a full charge.
