A few shots from last night near Fairplay. Critiques welcome.

A friend at work was telling me about this Bristlecone stand. They're all excellent shots, but I really like that third one - lots of character in that particular tree.

These are spectacular, Scott! The third one would be aided by lopping off about 25% from the bottom, I think, since you really don't need all that negative space. But these are fine images indeed!

Great stuff, Scott. I like the drama in #2 and the pink clouds in #1 are nice. Interesting stand of trees.

Thanks guys. Rick, what do you mean by this particular stand of trees? Do you mean this area or this exact stand of trees? I went hiking with my dad and we just happened upon this stand of trees. There is no trail leading to them. On the other hand, it's certainly conceivable that others may have found them. Regardless, it was good to be out again.
Nice Scott - My 1st reaction was that number one is awesome with the color - but then I felt like I was leaning left while looking at it. The B&W image is great - with the contrast of trees and sky, it shows us just how harsh the B'cone world is.

Thanks Dave. The picture is in fact perfectly level. The trees lean from constant wind and there was a steep downhill to my left.

All very nice Scott. I love Bristle Cones and I have a strong lean toward B&W so #2 gets my heart. On number three I think I would be tempted to burn in the top third a bit to enhance the detail of the tree and the sun flare.

Hey Scott - I meant the area. One of my co-workers was telling me about a stand of bristlecones near Fairplay. She and her husband camp at one of the nearby campgrounds occasionally. She wasn't very specific, but left me with the impression that there were quite a few trees out that way.

Windy Ridge on the east slopes of Mount Bross isn't exactly a secret location...

A very nice trio of photos! The first is my favorite. The soft clouds are so nice, and the trees do look like they've patiently endured a few decades of wind.

I really like the BW version. Very dramatic!

Thanks for the comments. Todd, you're right, it's not a secret at all...but there are alot of trees to choose from.

Very beautiful, Scott! They make me want to make a return trip there some day, since my last visit was almost 20 years ago. I suddenly feel very old! Or is that the "Bristlecone Effect"?
