I was wondering who the other members were whose images were selected by Hewlett Packard. I think it would be interesting to see the winning images, too. This is my saw-whet image that sold. (Incidently, I guess I should take it down since I don't own it anymore)

Scott, congratulations on the sale - and the recognition! I hope some of the other members who had photos selected will chime in here as well.

BTW, no need to take the photo down from PhotoPortfolios - you are allowed to display the winning photo in your personal gallery.

Hey Scott, congrats on the sale of the Saw-Whet image, great shot :toast: I'm happy to report that I had eight images that were selected.

Eight images!!! Holy crap!!! I guess that leaves only one more member as I understand there were only 10 images selected?! Congratulations,Mike, that's a fine chunk of change!

Mike, that is awesome! Perhaps you have found a regular client.

BTW, I'm not certain how many photos HP used this time around - it may have been more than 10.

The last I heard from Hp they requested a high res image for evaluation. I'm assuming they didn't pick my image.

Congratulations, Scott. Beautiful image deserving of the prize.

HP selected three of my photos for the second phase, which alone was a win for me (being an amateur).

They did pick one of my images, but once I heard they were only offering $1000 for LIFETIME rights, I said no way. HP used to be my favorite client until they started this contest scam. I call it a scam, because they used to pay way more for images, and are only using this to get images cheaper than before. I'm disappointed to see the industry as a whole moving in this direction.

I hate to dog on HP, as they really were a great client for me for years, but I find this behavior disturbing.

P.S. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, just wanted to share what I see as a disturbing pattern in the industry at the moment.

$ 1000 for lifetime rights??????????? (for one year/non exclusive rights it is low but ok, but otherwise...) This is ridiculous!!! Zack, way to go to say no!!!!!!!!!! That's the biggest joke I have heard in a loooong time.
Sorry for all that might not want to hear that, don't take it personal, but Zack is right, this ought to be made clear!

Zack and Georg, the purpose of this thread is for those whose photos were selected to share their experience. We've had two "long and bloody" threads on the point you raise that are still open for comment and can be accessed from here.

Thanks!

Hey Zack, you needed to work the negotiations a little more, my settlement worked out better then that for me.

How can something be a scam if the terms are clearly spelled out? Ooops...that's for another thread! Congrats to those who won!! :toast:

Jim, you're right, and if it was a just matter of negotiations it's fine anyway. Sorry, I just felt my neck hairs stand up after reading Zack's comment....

Mike, I'm glad to hear you were able to negotiate better terms.

Someone point me to the right scam, er, contest. All I can find is something about silly pets and Shrek. :frown:

I like some others had several (four, I think) selected for the second round process but didn't hear anything after that. Obviously, I wanted to win but being a rank amateur, I was pretty thrilled to have made it that far. Had fun, was a good experience, and I'm happy to know how it ended - I was wondering myself.

Oh and congrads to Mike and Scott!

Will HP do run this contest with us next year or do we know?
