Driving toward my indended destination of Scott Lake on McKenzie Pass friday evening the folks at OPB informed me of the rare Aurigid Meteor Shower occuring between 4-5 a.m. I'd heard of this before but
never had the chance to view it. As my luck would have it the west gate on McKenzie Pass was still locked at Proxy Falls trailhead like it was in mid-July so I resorted to plan B... Plenty of time to make it to the Painted Hills. By 4 a.m. with the moon lighting the hills (and sky) I was surprised to see any but counted 7 during the peak!
When the show ended I took this parting shot... Advice appreciated!

Cool shot Larry. I see the constellation Orion right in the middle.

Great shot, Larry. It looks a bit muddy in the foreground, and when I did a quick shadows adjustment, it jumped radically with a value adjustment of one. So I'm thinking that there's a gray cast to this image that you could pull back a bit, keeping the surreal night colors, but also revealing a bit more scene detail. I can post what I did, if you're interested.
I really need to try some of these - I've just been amazed at all of the cool night shots that have been posted this summer!
