I haven't posted (or been shooting) much lately, but did get out to Rowena Plateau today - very windy, very dry, and very nice clouds! The balsamroot are just crunchy brown heaps this time of year, but there were very pleasant tawny hues along the Gorge slopes that I tried to capture. This particular view is from just off the Rowena Plateau trail, looking into the lower end of Rowena Dell, with tomorrow's approaching storm starting to build on the horizon.
I had to rotate this a tiny bit, and toned down a reddish hue that was pretty much coming from the scene, but seemed artificial in the image. Comments and suggestions appreciated, as always!

Hi, Tom--
This is a nice scene with lots of potential. It looks like the light was pretty strong, as there is a lot of contrast here. Perhaps a curves adjustment layer (presuming you work in PS...) to flatten out the contrast just a little will open up some of the darker areas and add more interest there. I love the sky and view of the Columbia and the depth provided by your point of view looking down through the dell.

Tom,
I was fooling around with cropping on the edge of my browser window and liked a crop showing the top half of the image as a pano. I realize it changes the character and intent of the image, but it's got some really nice lines that way.

Thanks, Catherine and Mike - I'm posting a reworked image that's both lighter and softer. I think it resolves some of the harshness from the first image. I'll try a pano next...

Okay... and from that reworked image, here's a pano, per Mike's suggestion. I kept that bit of valley floor with the dirt track running through it. For me, it's an essential part of this scene (for scale and interest). Thanks for the feedback!

Good work, Tom. Opening up the shadows in the reposts really made a big difference. More than I expected.
