So many great shots on here, as a person who is always looking for new places to go, when a post is put up, if possible could the location be shown as well?

many thanks :wavey:

Hmm i'm not sure, i'd love to see where some are taken, but many are of sensitive species or at locations setup by or only avaliable to the photographer.

There are books on this, and i'm sure as a group we could possibly get a book or an E-book together?

Well perhaps only tell the non secret ones?

I too like to know where the shots were taken...if it's secret and not available for public access, perhaps state it? Techs are often omitted, I'm sometimes guilty of that, so this probably wouldn't work as well as we'd hope :frown:

We used to have a locations thread which people posted a site and gave lots of details of the area, hints tips etc, even down to the local shop etc.

I think it disappeared with the old version of the forum.

Other than that theres always Mike Lanes Book.

That sounds like it would have been ideal, I`m not after any ones secrets here, just sharing nice locations to spend an afternoon, enjoying my hobbie.
The book is called?

The book is called?

Where to watch Wildlife

7dayshop.com were doing them for a reduced price of a few pounds, not sure if the offer is still going. I think the book is only around the £10 mark at full price.

As Brian said, we used to have a topic on the old system which some folks had been kind enough to give some pretty good write-ups of places. Unfortunately when Jim archived (deleted) a load of topics the forum software failed to acknowledge the 'keep alive' marker and deleted the topic :frown: (since fixed - hopefully!). I thought I had a copy on one of my PCs but haven't been able to find it.

Mike's book is called 'Where to photograph wildlife in Britain' and you can get a copy from him. Other useful sources are the wildlife trust websites, and books like 'Where to watch birds in xyz' can give a few useful locations too.

Ah, I`ve got a copy of that, good book, perhaps I was reading the forum wrong, I thought apart from showing photos and getting criticism on them it was also to pass on info such as this? As i said above I don`t won`t any ones "Secrets", just to enjoy my time out walking.

Paul, maybe you're best off just posting a question about a particular area that you plan to visit and seeing what replies you get. You may have more luck that way

I think it is only right that locations are not generally listed with images posted on this or other sites on the web.
The reason for this opinion is that it avoids the problem of undue pressure on certain locations and the species within, and the internet in general has been the catalyst to some problems that have been cited on this website and elsewhere online; the obvious one being the dreadful pressure and unethical activities by photographers in relation to Dippers at some breeding sites in Derbyshire earlier this year.
Also it is hard to know or be sure who else may be looking at these web pages for information that might help them to pursue wildlife crimes such as egg collecting or the persecution of birds of prey!

Hello Paul

I totally agree with Nigel, some sites are just to sensitive and can lead to problems for example the Dipper problem during this spring. I get a few emails asking for info and usually I am only to glad to help and I am sure others that post here will be helpful too. My advice is to work your local patch and know it well this way you can be on hand when the weather is good and you will not be short of subjects to photograph.

Sadly, I also agree with Nigel

It has to be remembered that this is not a private forum, we have approximately over 400 UK lurkers on a requlary/daily basis, each of these lurkers will have a net-work of friends - therefore UKNP is probably the fastest way to give and receive 'nature photography' related UK information.

In one way this is good, in another it potentially agrevates a problem of photographers who do not understand wildlife having a go at wildlife photography at a delicate site. I am not suggesting that there are any of these in the people who post regulary on this site but there most probably are some in the lurkers.

It must also be remembered that some people will not respect the subject - the dipper issue reported by Elliot last year being a classic example.

The above said this forum has no 'rule' on this topic, I have always maintained that it is up to the person who posts the thread to decide if they want to reveal the location. It is simply a personal choice but please consider the subject when you do so.

I have no trouble in saying you can get Gannet shots at Bass Rock, Saltee, Bempton and scenics at the Isle of May, Hare at Altcar, Seals at Donna Nook, Red Squirrels at Formby, Red Grouse at Grinton and Puffins on the Farnes.

Paul, the best way to get locations is
a) to turn up to gatherings as people will often tell you want but they will not publiish it ( and this forum is the next best thing to publishing)
b) work up a few sites around your way and share them with a group of other local photographers - you will probably get the same in return.

I can give you locations of some places I took my photos. Unfortunately you'll need to swim and then walks quite a few miles to get to those places . It's not just UK folks here :wavey:.
