This is more a novelty image, but thought I'd post it given all the changes that are happening up on the Eliot Glacier. This was taken a week ago last Sunday from halfway down the south moraine, along the Eliot Glacier. The mountain looks about like you'd expect in late August, but the interesting part is how far the melting zone of the glacier has moved up the valley in recent years -- and the deep rills that have formed in the north moraine, due to the washouts that have been occurring in tandem with the glacial collapse. Geology in action!

This is stitched from four very wide image - taken at about 2:30 PM, unfortunately. Due to the bend in the panorama, the south moraine appears in both ends of the photo. This would make a nice early morning pano... I'll have to put that on my very long list!

Would make a great addition to any geology textbook.

Hard to see in a small jpeg, but this is pretty cool. I like the sweeping long clouds.

I agree with all previous comments, however i would like to see just a little more of the clouds on the top, ( sweeping over that peak)... but I really like it!

It's hard for me to appreciate the grandness of scale and the detail in the image here, reduced as it is size. However, it and your comments make me wonder-- geology in action? or the effects of global warming on the landscape and causing geological activity to "speed up" as it were? These questions spring from my memory of NOT hearing about or seeing so many major storms and volcano eruptions, etc., etc., around the world in decades past. Just a meandering thought in the middle of the night. Wish I could see this grand pano in its room-sized edition!

Thanks for the comments - I did some more work on this to improve the color and contrast a bit (within the constraints of really bad mid-day light), and fixed some of the stitching problems around the mountain that didn't show up in the small version. This resulted in a tipping of the horizon line on the right side... so more surgery will be required! I think I'll just go up and reshoot this with better light, and perhaps a bit of autumn snow on the mountain, instead..!

Anyway, here's a larger, adjusted version:

Thanks for looking!
