Hi Phillp,
Have you ordered your next nikon/s? I shall miss out this time round as I can't afford one or get away with it, besides the D2X is good enough for me.
I like your dipper but not its surroundings, a green banked, fast flowing rocky stream is expected. Still a fine study though showing off a bird in its prime.

Nice image Phillip :toast:
I tend to agree with Tim with regard to the BG, especially as the bird seems a bit to close to the background in this instance.

Better than any Dipper image I've got though

Hi Tim I cannot decide which one to purchase I really fancy the D3 but I may just get them both the only trouble is, that I then will have six bodies ? I suppose I could sell one or two but I don't like doing that, the background is as you and Andy have pointed out not a very good but it kept going to this spot just before it went into its nest.

Phillip.

Phillip - I can't see the point of the D3 myself - in FF mode you'll lose image size and the DX crop size is only 5 and a bit Mb.

I'm waiting until they announce something else

The background is not a problem to me - if that is where they operate, it is natural and acceptable as far as I am concerned. Dippers nest in a similar situation near to me - ie in a bit of a hole in a muddy coloured rock face.

I remember this scene. Great feather detail especially on the breast. I think you were able to get slightly closer than me with your 800mm vs my 300mm + 2x on a full frame slr. We shall have to try again now I have a 600mm! :toast: :toast:
