Thought I'd start a thread similar to the one over in RMNP in which everyone can give the latest fall color updates for the northeast.
Any thoughts on what this fall will bring? Here in upstate NY we've had a shortage of rain and some trees have leaves that have all died and a few trees are showing signs of color...mostly ugly rustics...
Are other parts of the northeast fairing better? I'd like to get out for a weekend trip so I'll watch for updates here.
Thanks.

I'll happily start. I was up in the Whites yesterday, and down to about 3500 feet is nearing peak with the yellows already. It's a few days early, but I think that stress on the trees is evident.
On route 16 from portsmouth to the whites, the swamp maples, the earliest turners are just starting to fade from their green. And then there is this random maple at full orange peak on the banks of the exeter river in southern NH. He confuses me!

We have a few spots of color here in Vermont. We always have a few trees that turn early, usually along the road sides. The swampy areas tend to turn early also. I have seen a few ridge lines along I89 between Waterbury and Richmond that have some surprising splashes of color. I will venture up to the Northeast Kingdom this weekend and see what I find. It usually peaks up there around the end of September / 1st of October.

I went scouting up in Groton State Forest Today. Here is a shot of Marshfield Pond. Just a shot to show you how the colors are beginning to change. Nothing done to the image other than slight contrast adjustment, and sharpening. This is five verticle images stitched together, and cropped slightly.

The leaves around central eastern Vermont are changing nicely. Some pros around here say another week or so till peak.

Just drove around the whites. Minimal color...UNTIL you get through crawford notch on rt 302. Then the entire bretton woods/cog area is about 40 to 50% to peak. Beautiful reds and oranges coming through...signs of a good season ahead. I was on the higher summits of the southern Presidentials, and above 3500 feet is peak now...

Was in the northern whites today, from whitefield to Gorham. Getting near moderate color, but still plenty of green to go. Next week should peak. South of Pinkham Notch, very low color...

Was in the Adirondacks Giant Mountain area yesterday. Colors are about 75%. Peak should be in the next week.

I've heard most of the reds and oranges up near Lake Placid are gone and it's mostly yellows now. I'm heading up this weekend via Old Forge. I also heard that area is looking to be very near peak and very pretty about now.
I was back up in the whites again this weekend. Pinkham notch, crawford notch and areas north of the notches are a beautiful peak right now...probably the best peak since 2002. South of the notches, conway and lakes region have atleast another week to go...
