Fall is rapidly coming and it is my first over here - I arrived 4th October last year, so by the time we were settled it was all over. I am now getting worried that I haven't got a proper plan yet for this year...
I want to get to the Whites later this month (Jim - best guess on when?), a 4 or 5 day road trip up and down Vermont (later this month or first week of Oct?) and hopefully finishing the season in Acadia for the NENP meet...
I plan to also catch the odd hour around the Newburyport end of the Merrimac valley and around town here in Westford, but only because I know these areas a little!
Anywhere else North of Boston or any specific spots on the Merrimac?
I haven't visited Great Bay yet, is it worth a visit during fall?
Sorry, this is a bit of a brain dump! Any ideas to help this clueless Limey would be appreciated!

Hey Mark,
The nice thing about the Whites is that the peak is spread out from north to south and from up to down. I find that you can't miss with the first few days of October, but north of the mountains usually peaks the last days of september. I had great color along the andro sept 28th last year, peak in the notches the 5th, and peak elsewhere lower and south (conway around the 10th, while the notches and especially the north were past peak.
But for the most color, I'd say first week of October should be key in most areas.

And here's Pinkham notch last year on October 6th. Leaves starting to come down, just past peak, but still plenty of color
