Just another day at the beach

For some strange reason I just could not get the color to look right on this image....So, since I had been seeing some nice black and whites on this site, I decided to dive in and see what I could come up with....

I am curious to know if the tones look ok and are balanced to make this work....

I like the perspective here. I might make it a tighter crop at the top and give it more of a panoramic effect.

I've never worked in black and white (although I am very much in awe of the work of many who do) and am always hesitant to comment much on this format. Compositionally though, I love the bird flying above the tree crowned rocky shoreline. However, the rest of the image adds little for me and even distracts (for example, the bird on the shore and the people are too far away and heading out of the photo, and the foreground and sky are very plain). It would be interesting to see a crop that was tighter, removing some of these elements.
