My fall schedule is changing by the day due some work issues and I'm not sure how long or if I'll be able to get away for the Colorado aspen display. My back up plan is a slightly later trip to Utah canyon country and was wondering about the general timing for the change of colors on the cottonwoods. Don't need a lot of detail right now, just a few suggestions of general timing if things work out to head that way. Help appreciated.

Roger,

At this time, colors started changing, but mapels only. You can see some nice colors already, but aspens are still green. Last news I have heard from meteorologists was that the aspens will start turning gold first week in October.
We just have to watch it. If a cold storm would pass by, it can be a different story.

The cottonwoods around Moab usually look good from early October to early November. I've seen a few around that are BARELY starting to change by by and large they are all still very green.

The cottonwoods in Zion usually are peaking at the end of october, followed by the maples(in the canyon) in early november. Higher elevations are of course earlier.

Roger, for what it's worth, last year I saw great yellow cottonwood color in Grand Gulch in the first week of November. ( pics here )

Roger, if you're out here and interested in some company let me know. If I'm not working I'd like to meet up with you (and finally meet you in person!).

Bret, Thank you kindly for the invite! It would indeed be good to say hello, if not shoot a photo or two. I'll drop you an email if I'll be out your way. I'm still wrestling with schedules right now and if not this time around, maybe next. Roger
