Hi Folks,
Can anybody confirm which of the Thistle family this is please?
I have it down as a Creeping Thistle (Cirsium arvense) but now am not so sure.
Not really for critique but feel free if you wish.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
Thanks and Regards
Chris.

Chris, I don't know its name, but it's definitely a cool photo. That color (some may call it purple, whatever) is stunning.

Was this photo taken in the UK? If it was, Roger Phillips's "Wild Flowers of Britain" lists almost twenty varieties of thistle. You need to say where it was growing (type of soil as well as region), and seeing a leaf would help.
It's a beautiful shot, but more information is needed for identification of the species.

Thanks to those who have replied.
John: Yes it was taken in some woodland just up the road from me. I don't know the soil type I'm afraid, but it was taken in Devon in some mixed woodland.
