Wednesday's Evening Sky from Conway

Not to compete with Tim (as if I could) but just to illustrate that the phenominal sky he saw was visible from most of the State. Shot this over Spencer Lake on the west edge of Conway just after leaving church Wednesday evening (Yeah, we Baptists still have church on Wednesday night).

BTW, should any of you be contemplating purchasing one, this was shot with my new Canon G9 digicam. GREAT little pocket camera. This was shot at ISO 100 but I have several similar shots at ISO 400 that show almost no noise and fabulous color saturation! Quite a feat for a 12mp digicam with a 1/1.7 sensor. If you happen to be in the market for a small pocket camera I don't think you can go wrong with this one! I'm sure it has some limitations, but it sure beats lugging around my D2x all the time.

C/C welcome

Have a great day!

Another beautiful sunset, Dave! I especially like the reflection and the wispy streaks of clouds. I might think about cropping the leaves in the UL corner, but that's really minor.

David,
Great sunset. I especially like the way you captured the different layers of clouds that are at different brightness levels. There must have been some stiff winds in the distance to create the wave patttern in the distant cloud.
Nice shot.

I've been waiting for the G9 ever since the G7 came out that was missing RAW - what happened to the G8? Now if Thomas Knoll would hurry up and update a few of the newer cameras and backs and ship 4.2 I would be a happy camper.

That is phenomenal light, David - I agree with Bill about the leaves, but really nicely done.

Thanks to all! I agree about the leaves and should I print this would definately clone them out.

Tim, the little G9 is a TREMENDOUS improvement over the G6 I've had for some time now as my "carry around" camera and I am terribly impressed by the image quality I'm getting even shooting in Large superfine jpg mode. (I do miss the articulating screen a bit but the 3-inch wide view screen on the G9 is outstanding!) Raw was the seller for me over the G7, unfortunately I'm having problems getting ZoomBrowser EX to work on my Vista OS computer. Don't know what the issue is, neither does Canon service tech. Works great, however on my home XP based system and raw is just incredible, even at ISO 400. Jump to 800 and you begin to get some noise issues but anything under is just great, even from the smaller sensor. I, too, will be pleased to see ACR 4.2 released as long as it includes the G9. Until then I'm pretty well stuck shooting jpg.

As to why they skipped G8-- from another board there was speculation that the reason was that the pronunciation of "G8" sounded, in some Asian languages, suspiciously close to an inappropriate word for the female anatomy. Whether that's true or not who knows since the most complicated Asian word I know is "Moo Goo Gai Pan", but that explanation has been tossed around a bit. Whatever they call it, however, I'm VERY pleased with my G9 and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality, precision made pocket camera.

Blessings to all!
