Mt. Hood Sunset

This is an older stitch of Mt. Hood; taken from Lola Pass Rd. in February of last year. (Before I purchased my SLR; this was taken with a Coolpix 8400).

My wife has been decorating, and would like to add a print in the master bedroom. I’ve bumped the saturation a bit and warmed the color compared to the original to better match the room decor.

This was a fun sunset to photograph. I took several stitches without moving my tripod over an hour or so as the sun went down. You can see the original of this photo, and the other photos I took that evening here (be warned these are larger, ~400k each in size):

As the sun was getting low.

The sun had set for the lower hills, but was still shining on Hood.

The sun had set and the sky had taken on a nice glow (this is the original of the photo above).

John, I like this a lot. I personally would like to see a crop from the top and right side. I think having that blue sky patch in the clouds near the top of the image would be a even stronger comp. With that said though I very much like the perfectly exposed mt and colorful clouds. BTW I appreicated your honest responses on my last post. Those sunburts as just tough to work with, at least for me!

Nice shot, John... I'm torn about the crop myself.. that sky is so nice.. Also, the images you point us to are great.. especially the first and second ones - really like them!

Nice image, John. It could use just a tad more contrast to my eye - I tried adjusting midtone contrast upward a bit, and it helped saturate the clouds and give the forest some dimension. But that's a matter of taste, too.

All 4 shots are great.....

based on what color your walls are......I would say go with the first link image...its a bit brighter and will help to lighten a room or if the room is already light, it will show up more.

the cloud color in 1 the post here is just perfect!!

Adrien,

Do you mean remove some from the top and right, something like this? Let me know if I misunderstood.

As to your Crack of Dawn post I'm happy to contribute, minimal though my thoughts often are. I'm really impressed that participants in this forum seem willing to give and take both the pros and cons, a real advantage for improving our photography.

Tom, it's funny how I develop tunnel vision when working on a photo. When I read your post I thought, "I'll bet that's too much." But, when I gave it a whirl I agree completely. Thanks for the suggestion. I've posted the result above; let me know if this is what you had in mind.

Darren, that first one is actually my favorite too. Alas, it doesn't go quite so well in the room.

Thanks again all!
