This is a great portrait, David - I saw it while at work today, but couldn't comment until now. You should post this over on the fauna gallery as well.... :toast:

Nice, tight, close-up David! Is that a specular reflection off the edge of the snout?

I don't think so...I think that was on the bears snout. I could clone it out...

The Orford River basin is the perfect place to photograph Griz. The Homalco First Nation has coexisted with the bears for 3000 years. They are never fed or allowed to get near human food or food sources. There seems to be a mutual trust between the Homalco and the bears. Yes, the guides have shotguns but they have never used them. The bears have mock charged the guides on several occasions but there has never been a mauling. As long as you don't disturb the food sources for the bears, you are okay. Also it is a good idea to know when to get out of their way. I felt perfectly safe, even with mother and cubs less than 25 feet from me.

Amazing shot, David - there is no way that I would be able to remain calm with a bunch of free-ranging grizzlies in the vicinity! Mock-charge? Well, that ALONE could cause my untimely demise!

If Mike was talking about that white spot on the bear's nose, then yes, I'd vote for cloning it out.

This first image is nice, the second one is fabulous. Congrats. I'd love to know more about where and when. :toast: :toast:
