While I was waiting for my new tires yesterday, I was salivating over the photos in TO Magazine and the on the inside back cover I saw a photo of the Umpqua and a familiar name.
Nice shot Larry!

You Dog!!!!!!
Is this the shot we worked on and then they reworked it to their liking????
Good eye Curtis! I've been wondering where they placed that image since I didn't recieve the customary copy that usually accompanies payment. I wasn't too happy with the image and Yep Darren... that's the one. I guess it doesn't matter too much what we think as long as the client likes an image. It's kinda funny how this TO thing came about though.... a year ago Darren noticed a thread on Craigs List asking for images of boats and nagged me into submitting one of mine that he liked so I sent them a small jpg asking if it fit the guidelines since Tillamook Rivers weren't listed as navagable(?) The art director replied saying it was exactly what they were looking for so a month later near deadline I sent the original 35mm slide, big mistake! 3 months later after hearing nothing I inquired as to the progress of the project and they fired back an e-mail saying it was being wrapped up and all the submitted materials would be returned soon. A month later the art director calls to tell me the project is going to press in a week and she had a few empty spots needing to be filled but something had been nagging at her...she'd seen an image in the past she wanted to use and couldn't find it in the submissions, but after searching through 1800+ e-mails she located my small jpg. That's right folks... USPS lost it! Fortunately I had a suitable tiff file and it was placed on the inside front cover. Don't go away yet cuz this saga gets even more weird! With press time coming in a week she asked if I had any more images to fill some holes so 3 days later I sent off 6 mediocre shots and recieved a follow up mail thanking me for participating but the project was done and off to the printer in a few days... end of story huh? Not yet! I recieve a frantic e-mail explaining that on a whim she sent a couple of my 11:58th hour images to the client and they wanted to change the cover shot...Please Send The File ASAP! This time I sent the slide Fed-X - Insured and the way this whole fiasco went from day one it was no surprise to me that the image I sent was one shot out of sequence from the one selected. But they bought it anyway?
I learned a few things on this wild ride and those are... Organize the collection, Send dupes of 35mm, use Fed-X, and bend the submission guidelines! In the finished piece I noticed 6 images that were listed as "We Don't Want"... and I had dozens that fit that category. The fees paid have helped with my photo-venture fuel bill this year but the day job still feeds me... with fewer surprises.
