Late afternoon on the Grand Canyon
I just got back from two weeks in the Grand Canyon. I had the unique chance to row my own raft for 89 miles to Phantom Ranch and then hike out. The experience was great but a lot of hard work and little time for photography. Here is a shot from our camp on day four. Next time I go, I will go the commercial route, leaving more time for photos. I will post a few more later.

What, you had to row your own boat? I get you had to put up your own tent and cook your own food too - could that be? I bet you have to be 100% concentrated on your job at this place or risk disaster. C.C. Lockwood leads a photo trip each year that I would love to go on - not so much for the photography, but for the service the guides provide!

How were the temps - did the cold water keep things comfortable, or was it really hot?

Sounds (and looks) like a memorable experience Tom. Glad to hear you made it back in one piece! Hope to get to see at least a few more shots before long.

Geez, what a beautiful scene, Tom! Great clouds and nice afternoon reflection of the rocks off the water. Can't wait to see more...

Great job, I'll bet this is an awesome print enlarged enough to show all the detail.

Tim, the temps at river level were over 100 for most of the day, but the water temp of 50 kept things reasonable. I put up my tent one night only and it was so hot and stuffy inside that I got out and never set it up again. I just slept on a pad and gazed at the stars all night.

I can not imagine going in July and August when the temps reach 115 during the day and rarely fall below 100 at night! If you get a chance to go, try for April,May, late Sept or October.
