Kirk are currently advertising replacement tops for Gitzo tripods
which is basically a cap to replace the clamping screw and center column.
Are the claims true is vibration reduced and stability enhanced?
if so it it certainly looks like an interesting route to better rigidty rather than the center column and tightening mechanism.

Possibly.
The kit looks like it converts the rapid riser twist lock with an equivalent flat plate system that the old 3 and 5 series Gitzo Mountaineers used. Any rising column has potential for sideways play, otherwise it wouldnt move.... From their thickness these new flat conversion plates look like they use the rapid riser screw mechanism to screw down tight onto the tripod shoulder. This should give no play whatsoever.
So not so much reduced vibration as reduced sideways play that is inherent in any rising column system.
