Taken this morning, color starting to show nicely now. Unusually the lake was calm and reflections of Long's were possible. Met Tony B, Richard Hahn and a possible black bear so it was a fun morning.

thanks Dave, it's a great location. This is the tighter print version FYI which I spent a little more time on.

Good stuff Bill. I love this location too and was there on Saturday. I like your comp on this.

Bill, terrific images. Great comps and light in both of them, but maybe a bit of brightening on the first one to bring out the foreground more. I'm thinking about heading up there on Friday morning. I've shot at Bear Lake but never went around to the aspens as it was always for summer shooting and I was heading somewhere else instead. Does the trail go behind these aspen or do you simply scramble up the rock to get above them?
Also, did you happen to drive on Hwy 7 past Longs? If so, any report on the aspen in that area?

Craig, good questions, To get to this shooting position you walk around the lake to the right and either 1. climb up the rockfall/scree slope or 2. find the easier "trail" just past it and climb up. There is another small stand of aspens further round the lake and higher up which offers similar but different views.
I didnt go along highway 7 so cant comment.
Good luck, the view is better with a few clouds but....

Tony, I like your photo a lot, the trees look great, and I love your Kawauneeche Valley Sunrise. Wow.

Yep Paul, I found the spot and have tried it a couple of times, this time the lake was flat calm and giving beautiful reflections. Lucky day.

Bill, your re-worked version kicks *ss. I have done a lot of climbing in Colorado, but that was before I took photography seriously... had no patience as a young man. No patience = 1 good image a year, if I was lucky. Nice work.
adios

Nice shooting, Bill - that second version is excellent. I wouldn't mind seeing the sky adjusted to be more like the first version, but still a super image!
