Canon 40D question about file size

Great camera, but I can't seem to convert the RAw to tiff and get the big file sizes I used to. I tried different color spaces, but same result. The new Canon Utilities does not do much of anything, so for now, I have been using DPP ro convert and save. Before, when I did this, I'd get a 55 meg file in 8 bit that would be 13 x 20 inches at 300 dpi. Now it's about 8x12 at 300 dpi and only a 28 meg file. I am wondering if the DPP conversion works differently, or if I am missing something? (probably the later :))
Thanks in advance.

I used the 20 D before, and converted with PhotoShop Raw plug-in.

the 8 x 12, 28 mb is the actual size, by comparison the 20D is 7 x 11, 24 mb so I know there is no way that the 40D is 13 x 20 55mb.

The software was probably interpolating your files before processing and that is how you ended up with those big files at 8 bit.

Mark - To expand on what Richard said : 20x13 at 300 dpi is 6000 pixels by 3900 pixels, or 23.4 Megapixels, which is obviously more than the camera actually has. So the software was definitely up-sizing your file.

12x8 at 300 ppi is 3600 pixels by 2400 pixels, or about 8.64 Megapixels, which sounds small for the 40D. Maybe that's the 20D size? Or perhaps the size reported isn't quite acurate? Inches and dpi in PS are pretty arbitrary...maybe if you looked at the pixel size?

Yes, i guess you're right. Unwittingly, I must have been re-sizing higher with Adobe RAW. The math makes more sense.

That posted before finishing. I did the math, The original 40D size image after opening as a tiff in PhotoShop that I notice is 8.64 inches by 12.96 inches at 300 dpi, or: 8.64x12.96x300x300= 10,062,000 megapixels. So. the conversion I get from DPP is fine. I worried that maybe my camera was giving me this new sRAW instead of the RAW. I think 20 by 30 or even larger prints will fine with this camera.

Check out this elk enlargement from the 40D I took this morning: http://markmillerphotos.com/html/latest.html

In PhotoShop CS I rezzed the orignal image to a 40 by 60 inch, and then cropped just an 8x10 of the head.
