As many of you probably already know, the high terrain is set to get some snow this weekend. I just wanted to share what I found as far as details go via NOAA, because what I found has adjusted my plans a bit. It's somewhat rare for them to list something of the nature of what I found in a forecast discussion.

This was taken from the NOAA forecast discussion for the Aspen - Indy Pass area this morning:

SO...COULD END UP WITH SNOW LEVELS
DOWN TO ABOUT 12000 FEET BY SUNDAY MORNING...WITH SEVERAL INCHES
OF HEAVY WET SNOW IN A FEW LOCATIONS. HUNTERS...VIEWERS OF AUTUMN
FOLIAGE...AND OTHER OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS NEED TO REMAIN AWARE OF
THIS POSSIBILITY...AND PREPARE ACCORDINGLY.

Nice! Doesn’t sound like a repeat of last years dump, but a little snow is always a welcome addition to fall foliage.

The immortal words of our own TC (at least that's who I first heard it from)...

"Bad weather makes for good photographs."

But be safe out there... :wavey:

I'm rather excited for the bad weather, and clouds that come with it...that being said, I'll just probably keep the Cherokee off of any 4WD territory above 12K and steer my feet clear of exposed mountaintops...after the run in with Mother Nature that we had on top of Mount Harvard last weekend, I'm a bit more cautious than normal right now.

lol, i plead guilty to promoting that 'rare event', since i mentioned to the author that this would be a busy peak weekend for leave watchers. If all goes as forseen, should help add some white to the vistas by the end of the weekend. This storm has been slowing a bit and looks warmer with each day, but i still wouldn't climb any 14er this weekend if i werent prepared for blizzard conditions. Probably the bigger threat is the slide potential from heavy rains, particularly over the southwestern mtns, but regardless it is the first decent storm of the season so deserves some respect. Be safe and have fun!
