XT, 17-40, 3 stop hard edge GND

I just returned from a big loop through the Southwest. My wife and I visited the North Rim, Wire Pass, Zion, Bryce and Capitol Reef in 6 days. I felt like it was a very productive trip though honestly exhausting. Kinda hard to choose where to start, so I think I'd best start at the beginning.

The North Rim is a major PITA to get to from Colorado Springs, and even more so when I'm driving my jeep. I need to drive slower through the mountains, and then the wind in the reservations made life miserable for another 6 hours or so. We missed a great sunset the first evening by about 10 minutes.

Fortunately, the second evening was much like the first. The clouds were great. Unfortunately, to go along with the clouds, the wind was strong. It blew a 58mm Cokin P adapter ring out of my hand and into the canyon. I was trying to take some 4X5 shots this evening, but the wind was so strong that I was certain I'd get camera shake and just gave up. The 58mm ring was for the 4X5, which was a bummer for the rest of the trip. The camera shop in Kanab was unfortunately out of 58mm rings (but it is a pretty good shop if you find yourself in need of something).

I'm hoping that I can get out to catch some fall color this week. The aspens and maples in the canyon were both changing.

I'm not sure if I'm more impressed by the nice pic, or by the fact that there's any camera shop in Kanab, let alone a decent one!

Nice job managing the light in dramatic fashion!

That's a sweet capture of a sweet view, Mel. Bummer about the winds and the loss of your adapter ring - you couldn't run down and grab it?

Rick, the worst part was that it was about 4 feet down on a ledge and clearly visible. I was on one of the fenced in overlooks, so I couldn't reach underneath it. I thought about climbing over the fence, but below the small ledge where my ring was sitting, the wall dropped another 50 feet. It was torture sitting there thinking, I need that thing for the rest of the trip.
