Allegan County Village Scene

While checking fall foliage updates, I stumbled on a scene somewhere in the south western part of Michigan (photo says "courtesy of Allegan County Parks and Recreation Department" and is currently on this page:http://www.wmta.org/all-things-autumn-10/). It reminds me of the photos I have taken in New England. I was wondering if anybody could identify where this was taken and direct me there?

Also, are there other similar photo ops in that part of the state?

I am a (mostly) lifelong resident of Michigan, having grown up in Traverse City and now living in Saginaw - but am not too familiar with the Southwestern part of the state -- my son is attending WMU in Kzoo, so I would have an "excuse" to get over there <G>. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Andy,

I was born and raised in that part of the state and have traveled many of the small roads in Allegan and Van Buren counties when I was young. There are many hills and valleys in that area, and many small towns, in fact the town of Allegan sits in a valley. But I can not place that scene although I bet my mother could, she's has lived all of her 70+ years there.

But to help you get started in your search, that pictures appears, in a different crop, on the Allegan County web page at http://www.allegancounty.org/heritagetrail/ . Their email address is parks@allegancounty.org . It's worth a try.

Good luck,
Duane

Thanks, Duane: I sent them an e-mail. If your mother recognizes it please let me know.

Andy, I can't help in identifying that scene, but can assure you that there are many such scene in Southwestern MI ( I grew up in Kazoo).

Take a drive west from Kazoo on Red Arrow Highway, leading to Mattawan, Paw Paw, (Van Buren County) Hartford, etc. Try some of the side roads and see where they lead. St. Joseph County south of Van Buren also has numerous rural roads with photo ops.
By the way, Van Buren County, like Old Mission Peninsula, is wine country. Numerous vineyards and wineries along Red Arrow Highway.

Back to Allegan County.....check out Fennville in the fall. Apple Cider galore long with fall colors...and I believe they also have a Goose Festival!
