Sciurus Vulgaris + re-post
... or Red Squirrel to the rest of us  Taken at Formby Point yesterday.

Nice that internal IS looks to be working. I assume it was hand held?

ISO 800, 1/60th? Must have been pretty dark. You did well to keep the head sharp on such a twitchy little creature :toast: The pose is a classic, but the colour cast, noise, and background detract a little too much for me.

Great pose, would like the head angled a bit more to the front. Maybe tone down the red a touch. Excellent for hand held

Where did the sun go -

It's certainly a nice enough image especially under the apparent rubbish circumstances :toast:

The only crit I would throw at you Paul is clipping half the tail - a squirrel is its tail!

Now you mention it Elliot, I can see the colour cast. Here's another try this time from the camera's JPEG engine.

Better! Cleaner and sharper. :toast:

That's more like it - I thought that the original post looked a bit fuzzy for the 50-200, (I'm not sure if the AA filter is particularly aggressive in the Oly bodies compared to Canon but the .orf RAW files can take a lot of sharpening to get back to being sharp ....) the jpeg image also looks much cleaner OOF, what jpeg parameters are you currently using? - sharpness -1, NR low/off?

As you know the clipping point is being misinterpreted by some 3rd party RAW development s'ware - I wonder if that is contibuting to the slight colour imbalance - not the classic magenta cast being experienced in blown whites , but the raw version does look very gingery compared to the jpeg version (blue channel needs tweaking?)

22 days to go........

Hi Mike,

The first attempt was a classic case of user error caused by staring at the screen for far too long to the point where I couldn't see that I'd got the white balance miles too warm  For jpgs I'm using sharpness -1 and noise filter off. I haven't seen any jpeg artifacts when re-sizing yet. For raws I usually apply some (relatively) wide radius initial sharpening to get them to around the same sharpness as the jpegs before final resizing and sharpening. Yep, E-3 official unvieling 17th October
