Took a ride up Cedar Mountain and down the Kolob Resevoir road this afternoon and the colors are looking quite nice. At the very top of the mountain near midway and the mammoth creek area the aspens are in full color, with some of the lower elevations being spotty. All the maples and oaks at lower elevations are brialliant reds and oranges. We decided to take a trip out to the Lava Point area of Zion to see if we could catch a glimpse of the condors and to our delight, we spotted atleast 15!! One of which flew to within less than 40 feet of us. Wow, what an amazing and flippin' huge bird! These things are enormous, yet qute graceful. We were lucky to be close enough to see that it was bird #16. Now thats what I call a sunday drive.

Adam - thanks for the update. Did you visit the Kolob Canyons section of Zion? Any reports on colors up there?

I was just in the Zion main canyon. There were no maples changing in there right now. There were lots of red maples in the North Rim - Grand Canyon though. So I would think the color is on its way.

Thanks for the report, Adam. Got any pics?

Unfortunately I dont have any pics. 4x5 is not ideal for shooting moving birds! I still dont have a little point and shoot digicam, although I really need to get one for instances like this. Rene- The Kolob canyons usually are in full color the second and third weeks of october. I will be in there often over the next month so I can give you some more specific updates.

Oh come on Adam, just focus at infinity, point in the general direction and click the shutter, lol :-)
