Well I finally opted for a NPN membership so now you have to see more pictures.

A place in the sun - Cocino overlook, North Kaibob Trail
XT 17-40L @17 f10 1/60
15 years ago, I hiked this trail with my Dad to the bottom and back out in one day. 28 miles, 6000 feet of elevation change, and yeah, it was 108 degrees at the bottom. It was one of my best and worst days of hiking ever. I actually didn't get to see this area on that hike because we passed it in the dark both ways.

I guess this one is out of order. Its is Marble Canyon from the footbridge and it is handheld. It was a relief to escape the jeep after the long road across the reservation. Passing clouds provided some nice texture to the vermilion cliffs in the background. One of these days I'd like to get in the river down there either to fish or for a rafting trip.

Really like the 2nd shot with the two trees growing on top of the column. How they ever took seed is beyond me!

Thanks Timothy. How they get enough water to live is beyond me too.

Very nice photos. I wish the first one had more detail in the canyon, but the comp is great. Thanks for sharing.

More pics - now we're talkin'! Those trees are amazing - that could be one of those successories posters for sure. Amazing clouds in #1.
15 years ago, there's no way that I could have hiked 28 miles and 6000 ft of gain in 100 degree heat. That you dad did it is just ridiculous.

Awesome, i especially like #1. About 10 yrs ago, i did the river and back from the S rim, but it was March, -10 degrees at the top (before sunrise) and a very comfortable 60 below. I had to buy a pair of cheapie crampons cause the trail was so icy.

Thanks Momo and Rick.
Rick,
My dad still does ironman triathalons today. He has finished 2 this year already and has another coming up in about a month. He's crazed and I have no doubt that he could still do this hike.
I on the other hand, have come to my senses. I think it happened on a winter 14er ascent where my lunch froze solid and my hands felt like they were close behind. I still hike alot, but no more insanity hikes or climbs for me.

Great photos. The sky in #1 is a little dark IMO, but it has a lot of emotion to it.

Nice pics Mel. Been enjoying your recent offerings from the GC. Haven't been to the GC in nearly 10 years and your pics have me thinking about a return trip.
Cool avatar by the way. Where'd ya find it? That CD's been going through some heavy rotation recently during my drive to and from work.

Thanks Doug.
The avatar is from the chemical brothers web site "Good Things" section. They're in Denver tomorrow BTW. I'm driving up from Co/Spgs to see them. Haven't seen them since the rave on the rocks.
