Folks,

I'm assuming we have all heard from this gallery.

Does anyone have any experience with them?

Allegedly ...
"Saatchi Gallery Online is commission free and includes the work of 60,000 artists who have loaded up their profiles on to the site. The site currently receives over 40 million hits a day.

It is an internationally acclaimed website used by artists, collectors, gallery directors, art critics and museum professionals around the world: SAATCHI ONLINE <http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/yourgallery>"

Thanks for your input.

Hmmm. Must mean I'm a nobody, because I never heard of them. Do you have a link?
Posted by Carol Hyman on September 25, 2007 at 1:15 PM
Hank, I'm sure your not "nobody."
Here are the links:

Sorry, I thought I had included the URL in my original post.

Carol,
Don't put much effort into this gallery, they do a mass contact of every artist-photographer they can find, I get a request to join every year, just got one yesterday. Honestly, they are so massive that it's really not worth it, you get more exposure through NPN then you would ever get through them and you don't get all the spam that comes with their gallery.

I believe the Saatchi gallery is owned by the founder of one of the world's largest ad agency networks. I read some good things about it in some publication or newspaper a few weeks ago. I signed up last night but the site is so sluggish it just gets bogged down. Oh well, my url is on there at least and that's all I really care about. :-)

It's good to see that I'm in good company. When I received my email from them, my first thought was that they must be desparate...

I got one too.

That's what ran through my mind when I got my "Invitation"

YUP--more trouble than it's worth as far as I am concerned.

I just got my invitation last night...I was beginning to feel left out.

I just got an invitation as well. Saatchi likes to dabble in everything -- but this could take off (doubtful but...)

I recently signed up with a new MS venture -- SnapVillage. Its a spinoff of Corbis so its got $$ behind it. In beta now -- and very frustrating. Sometimes it works sometimes not. Very little action so far but like Saatchi it might take off (or not)

Frank

Thank you for posting this. I received an invitation and hadn't had the chance to research them yet. Happy that I didn't waste my time doing so.

I received an invitation last night. One interesting point is that they used the email address that I have posted with NPN. The only other email address that relates to my photos is on PBase - and it is a different address.

This has all the earmarks of spam via NPN address harvesting.

I dont think they are harvesting trough NPN since i got an invitation e-mail on my sales account wich is completely different from the one i have here.

I got an invitation too yesterday and it reminded me of one that I got in dutch a few months ago by Sanesociety.org. I thought it looked a bit tricky and now I am glad I have never done anything with it. The setup is exactly the same as Saatchi.

I figured this topic would be here today. Include me in the "hit" list. Outside of the potential for junk mail and spam I don't see much down side to this. Of course those are two big down sides!

I suggest we all do a bit of research on the Saatchi Gallery (look at Wickipedia for your first clues) before assuming this is spam. The website appears legit, and like Richard suggested, it's a spinoff of the famous Sattchi Gallery in London. I DON'T think it's meant to make you sales of your 8 photos allowed on there, it's instead meant to be part of a huge database of available work in the world, and it's more of a Who's Who.

Nancy,

Well said. I've been attempting to register but haven't had a lot of luck.

Both the Saatchi Gallery in London and the Online Saatchi have the same URL's ...

Hi Wim,

I am a MAC user; however, after the third trial, I finally got my name, eMail address, and one photo entered. I used firefox. I don't think we'll get SPAM. I don't have that sense of the site. Ultimately I'll get a decent profile out there and 8 photos but it "ain't" going to be tonight ;^) Tomorrow is another day and you never know, it's yet again another way for folks to see your week.

I received an e-mail about this week before last, while I was in New Mexico; I forgot all about it. I may have to spend a moment or two later this week to see whether it's worth the trouble...
