At Dawn I Awake II
St Marys Lighthouse, the best lighthouse in the land arguably... I can seem to pull many compositions out of there every time I go.

Hope you are all well and going out taking pics this weekend. I am walking the moors in aid of Photo Research, a charity that aims to help gear heads and obsessives in the South West of England. If you want to sponser me there is a Paypal address I can send you.

Anyway in case you were wondering this an '8bit' file.

Very nice indeed.
Love the way the composition leads the eye from the bottom left corner around the scene to the lighthouse.
The black and white treatment works superbly too,IMHO.

no problem Graeme, its mainly a 1/4 sec at f16 ISO 100, a 17-40 f4L and a 5D. Tripod flat to the ground with cable release to time the exposures on receding waves. Its a blend of two exposures one for the sky and one the foreground. The shots are taken in Manual mode, with a quick spin of the dial I can change the exposure one way or the other and expose for each element. I had knackered knees that morning as I had spent about 1/2 hour on the ground scrabbling around trying different compositions. I cant stand angle finders and I only use the cheapo Chinese one I have to. The processing is a conversion to black and white and exposure blening using layer masks, contrast and toning in seperate elements like the rocks and sky as seperate layers, then finally flattened and split toned adding blue to the shadows to create an inky darkroom feel.

Cracking Shot, and thanks for the techs, I looked through your website and I must say your images are outstanding.

Hi Dave,

I like open feeling of your photo. Movement of waves and nicely constructed lighthouse all add to this good looking image.

Cheers,
Marko
