Those looking for fall color might want to check out the Flat Tops Scenic Byway about now. I shot there last Tuesday and Wednesday. The middle of the byway is the best from Dunkley Pass where there are good vistas (just beyond Dunkley there is still a bunch of green though), between the passes there are good closeups with lots of yellow, a good vista at Ripple Creek Pass and some good color for a few miles past Ripple. I also shot Trapper's Lake which had some nice snow on the peaks and OK color in the brush surrounding the lake. The mountains might not be like the dramatic, sharp, pointy Elks or San Juans, but you are likely to find at least some kind of color to shoot.

There was a little bit of everything - some trees past peak, some at peak, some brown-looking, some green that still haven't turned yet. This is from Dunkley Pass in early morning...

Thanks for posting. We are considering heading up that way this afternoon/evening.

That's some great beta, Joshua. Thanks a lot! If this was 3 or 4 days ago, it's probably looking pretty stellar right now. I've only been to Trappers Lake once since those fires, but your shot makes me want to reconsider it as a destination.

Nice images. I really like the light and color in the Cripple Creek Pass image.

That Trapper's lake photo brought back a lot of memories. I haven't been there since the late 60's My Grandmother still has a painting of it in her dining room.
